Post 2: Chef Gordon Ramsay and Passion

If you haven't seen Kitchen Nightmares or Hell's Kitchen, you should definitely watch them. They get my highest seal of approval. Why?

Well, when I first saw that Kitchen Nightmares was available on Netflix, all I knew about it was that Gordon was the chef and he had a reputation for being, well...not so nice.

But, after watching a few episodes, I declare him my hero. Not even joking.

I like to cook, but that isn't why he is my new hero.

He is my hero because he is so full of passion. You can see it, when he is around food or talking about it, how much passion he has for it; for cooking it and for selling it. And he wants others to in the same industry to be passionate and work hard.

It makes sense, though! If food isn't prepared properly, people can get seriously hurt. There are mistakes in cooking, that when made can be lethal. So, if people don't take it seriously or are so stubborn that they stick their head in the sand and ignore the problems it can cause horrible results.

And it isn't just about the risks, taking care of a restaurant takes so much time and energy, if it isn't something that a person is passionate about they shouldn't be doing it anyway.

I admire him. I envy him. Both result from his passion and his determination. If I had half of either, I would be a straight A student. I would have finished a novel. I would be planning world domination. (Not really.)

I do wish I had as much, or even half as much, passion for something as he has for cooking. I used to have passion for writing. But, it wasn't the same, and it has faded over the years as my family has continuously told me not to bother trying.

What do you think of Gordon Ramsay?

What is your passion? How passionate are you about it, on a scale of sloth to Ramsay?

Post 1: Tribute to and Discussion of Hands

Yes, the first post on this blog is going to be about hands. Most people who read this will probably roll their eyes or make a face of 'really? why would you want to do that?'. And that is exactly why I think it is important.

Look down at your hands right now. What are they doing? If you are on a computer, my guess is that one is on the mouse and the other is located in the general area of your keyboard, or holding a cup of something, like tea. (I wish I had tea, right now. ) If you are reading this on your phone, like a blackberry (a.k.a. 'crackberry', always wondered where that nickname came from.) or an iPhone (I have an iPhone!) one hand is holding your phone and the other is on the steering wheel. Kidding! (Hopefully.)

Hands are very important and often taken for granted, until they are in pain or being adorned with rings.
So, I think that we should all take a moment once a month to appreciate our hands and let them rest. Let them do nothing. Type with your feet for a day, text with your toes and turn in your drum set for a pair of tap shoes.

Now that the tribute is out of the way, the all important discussion. Which, because this is a blog will be mostly one-sided.

When I was younger, my mom said 'I'm sorry, it looks like you got your dad's hands'.

My mom has really long, thin fingers. Her ring size is like 4 or 5. My ring size is 9, which I never thought about as being anything but normal, until then. Now, I wonder. Are my hands too big? Are my fingers too short?

But, what is normal for hands? What is abnormal? What makes them beautiful or ugly?
If people start asking these questions, is cosmetic surgery for hands going to become a common phenomenon?

Most people say above 5'8 is tall, and below is short. There are also assumptions about weight as well.
With all the things people have standards and assumptions about, why aren't there any about hands?
Is it that I just don't know about them?

Does anyone else wonder if there hands look good? Do they think there are hands are there best feature?
(Can you imagine? 'Yes, my best feature is my phalanges. They are long and luxurious. They make everyone jealous.")

So many questions about hands, any one have any answers?
